This is the widest gap in the comparison. Liquid Web delivers sub-2ms from four continents simultaneously via Anycast CDN. WP Engine delivers 236ms to 272ms in the US and Europe, with 1.02s in Bangalore.

The methodology difference matters here. Liquid Web was tested with Check-Host.net ping, which measures edge node connection speed. WP Engine was tested with KeyCDN full content TTFB.

The Liquid Web numbers reflect CDN edge ping. The WP Engine numbers reflect full content delivery time. Direct comparison should account for this difference.

For providers in this price bracket, any downtime incident is worth noting. Liquid Web backs its uptime claim with a contractual 10x credit SLA: if they fail their 100% Power and Network Uptime guarantee, they credit the account with ten times the amount of downtime experienced. That is a materially different guarantee from a standard 99.9% marketing claim.

WP Engine’s 1 minute and 2 seconds is brief and recovery was immediate. For a personal blog it would be irrelevant. For an ecommerce store processing transactions at the moment of the incident, it is a real event.

## The WordPress Depth Trade-Off

WP Engine’s restrictions are a feature, not a limitation depending on what you need.

WP Engine maintains a disallowed plugin list that bans caching plugins like WP Rocket and W3 Total Cache, several backup plugins, and tools that conflict with its internal EverCache and backup systems.
