That’s not a criticism of Kinsta. It’s simply what we saw when we put a fresh site online: automated traffic arrived almost immediately and dominated the request count during the first three days.

It’s the first sign of what this review is actually about: Kinsta gives you visibility into your hosting that budget hosts generally don’t, and the real question for $70/month is whether that visibility, along with the infrastructure behind it, is worth the jump from cheaper managed or shared options.

We ran a fresh WordPress install on Kinsta’s WP2 plan and tested it the same way we test every host: page speed near the server, response time from multiple continents, TLS configuration, and continuous uptime monitoring. Last updated: August 2026.

## Who This Tier of Hosting Is Actually For

Kinsta isn’t a first-website host, and it doesn’t pretend to be. There’s no cPanel-style beginner path, no $3/month entry tier.

The cheapest plan is $35/month for one site, and WP2, what we tested, is $70/month for two.

This makes sense for a small agency running client sites, a business site where downtime or slow load times have a real cost, or someone who’s already outgrown budget shared hosting and wants managed infrastructure instead of a control panel to configure themselves.

It doesn’t make sense for a hobby blog or a first personal site, the price floor alone rules that out before any performance number matters.

**Kinsta’s WP2 plan costs $70/month and includes 2 WordPress installs, 20GB of storage, and 250GB of CDN bandwidth. These core allowances are the same whether you choose the visits-based or bandwidth-based version.**

Where it gets specific is how your usage gets measured: WP2 comes in a **visits** version (70,000 monthly visits) and a **bandwidth** version (40GB of server bandwidth).

We’re on the bandwidth version.

A visit, in Kinsta’s own definition, counts each unique IP address hitting your site once per 24-hour period, not each page load.

Server bandwidth, by contrast, measures the actual data your origin server processes, independent of how many distinct visitors that represents.

If your traffic is a small number of people loading a lot of pages, or a lot of bots making a lot of requests the way ours has been, bandwidth-based billing can behave very differently from visit-based billing for the exact same account.

If you don’t already know your traffic pattern, pick visits. It’s the easier number to estimate from Google Analytics or a similar tool before you sign up, and it won’t quietly charge you more for heavy pages or bot traffic the way bandwidth billing can.

Switch to bandwidth billing later only if you’ve actually watched your account hit visit limits on pages that are unusually light, where the visit count looks high but the real server load doesn’t match it.

Kinsta keeps sites online when usage exceeds the plan limit, while applying the relevant overage charge. CDN bandwidth overage is $0.05 per additional GB, while visit and server-bandwidth overages use different rates. Kinsta sends usage alerts at 80% and 100%..

Backup retention varies by plan, starting at 14 days on lower tiers and reaching 30 days on higher and Agency plans; a fully managed WAF with [DDoS protection](https://hostingguider.com/blog/ddos-protection-hosting/), and free malware removal, none of that is gated behind a higher plan.

What every Kinsta plan lacks: email hosting isn’t included, and Kinsta does not offer HIPAA-compliant hosting or enter into Business Associate Agreements (BAAs).

The one feature that actually changes with plan size, beyond raw resources, is multisite support, off on the single-site entry plan, on everywhere else, and a dedicated account manager, which only shows up once you’re on an agency-tier plan.

Several core security and reliability features are included across Kinsta’s standard WordPress hosting plans, including managed WAF protection, DDoS protection, malware removal, and backup retention.

## What a Fresh Install Actually Looked Like

We didn’t migrate an existing site here, this was a clean install specifically to see what day one looks like.

Signup, invoice paid, DNS pointing confirmed successful for both the root domain and the www subdomain, and the go-live notification, all inside **30 minutes**.

Out of the gate, the dashboard reported zero pending plugin updates, zero vulnerable plugins, and zero theme updates, which is expected for a brand-new install and not evidence of anything long-term, but it’s a clean starting point to measure future drift against.

## The Analytics Kinsta Shows You That Most Hosts Don’t

This is the part of MyKinsta that actually surprised us. Beyond the usual traffic chart, the dashboard breaks every request down by what actually made it:

- 1,093 likely humans
- 53,394 verified bots
- 3,559 likely bots
- 3 AI crawlers
- 113 excessive-rate AI crawlers
- 634 automated traffic
- 114 malicious traffic
- 324 WP automations

Of the 114 requests flagged malicious, all were blocked automatically, 59,120 of the total 59,234 requests were allowed through. That’s the built-in WAF and bot protection doing its job without us configuring anything.

The response-code breakdown tells a similar story from a different angle:

94.9% of all requests returned a clean 200, 3% were redirects, 2.1% came back as 400-series errors, and exactly 5 requests, across the whole period, returned a 500-series error, specifically a 521, which is a Cloudflare-specific code meaning the origin briefly didn’t respond.

Five 521s out of 59,234 total requests is a 0.007% rate. It’s not nothing, and we’re not going to pretend a handful of origin hiccups in the first few days means nothing ever goes wrong here, but it’s a specific, small number instead of a vague uptime claim, which is more than most hosts show you without asking.

None of this analytics depth is something you’d get from cPanel or a typical shared-hosting panel.

Whether it’s worth paying for on its own is a fair question, but as a day-to-day operational tool, particularly for anyone managing traffic and security across client sites, it’s a genuine differentiator, not a marketing bullet point.

## Security: What Just Worked, and What’s Included

SSL installation was smooth, no support ticket needed, no manual certificate configuration, it was simply active when the site went live.

That’s worth stating plainly, since it’s not universal across hosts we’ve tested, some require a support conversation to get the same result.

SSL Labs graded the connection an A, and the TLS report confirmed support for Post-Quantum Cryptography key exchange, a newer standard that’s still uncommon across the hosts we’ve tested so far.

Every Kinsta plan bundles a fully managed WAF, Cloudflare Enterprise DDoS protection, and free malware removal if something does get through, all included at the $70 tier, not upsold separately.

The Green Web Foundation also confirmed this account is hosted on renewable energy, a clean pass rather than the no-evidence-found result we’ve gotten testing some other hosts.

## Page Speed Near the Server

Yes, it’s fast enough for a real site, but which number you trust depends on which tool you ask, and that gap is worth understanding before you take either score at face value.

GTmetrix scored the page 88% on Performance and 93% on Structure, with a 1.8s Largest Contentful Paint and a 1.8s Speed Index, both flagged in the report itself as slower than recommended.

Total Blocking Time and Cumulative Layout Shift were both optimal, at 0ms and 0 respectively.

Google’s PageSpeed Insights told a noticeably better story on the same page: 98/100

Performance on desktop, 100/100 on mobile, with Largest Contentful Paint at 0.6s desktop and 1.1s mobile, both comfortably in the fast range.

Two tools measuring the same page gave meaningfully different LCP results, 1.8s from GTmetrix against 0.6s and 1.1s from PageSpeed.

That’s a real discrepancy worth naming rather than picking whichever number looks better: different testing methodology, different simulated conditions, and possibly different treatment of Kinsta’s edge caching by each tool.

**What that means for you:** don’t take a single speed-test score as a verdict on any host, run your own site through more than one tool once it’s live, since which one you check can genuinely change the story.

Both PageSpeed runs also flagged the SEO score at 83/100 and an Agentic Browsing check at 2 out of 3, both marked as needing attention in the underlying report.

We’re not going to guess at fixes we haven’t tested; we’re noting them because a premium host doesn’t automatically mean every score comes back perfect, and it didn’t here.

## Does Your Visitor’s Location Change the Answer?

Yes, and unusually, it flips the pattern you’d expect from a US-headquartered host: this account is fastest for Asia-Pacific visitors, not North American ones.

We measured response time from eight regions using KeyCDN’s performance test.

Singapore is the fastest result by a wide margin, and Sydney is second, while every North American and European city we tested landed between 590ms and 800ms.

Combined with the SSL report showing the account’s edge IP on a Cloudflare range rather than a raw origin address, this points to a Google Cloud origin server likely sitting in Asia-Pacific, with Cloudflare’s edge network absorbing and routing everything else.

If your audience is concentrated in Southeast Asia or Australia, this account would serve them unusually well.

If they’re in North America or Europe, expect something closer to the 600-800ms range shown above, not the sub-100ms results Singapore got.

A separate monitor, checking every minute from 22 locations, gives a fuller picture over a longer window. It reported 100.00% uptime and 99.95% reachability, with an average latency of 728.28ms across every location combined.

This confirms Jakarta and Singapore as the two fastest results here too, but it also complicates the clean Asia-Pacific story a little: Singapore’s mean sits at 153ms while its most recent check spiked to 1.30s, and the same volatility shows up in NorthCalifornia (882ms mean, 1.61s last) and London (1.04s mean, 1.37s last).

UAE is the consistent worst performer in both its mean and its last reading, over a second either way.

A single logged request from this monitor shows where that time actually goes on an average check: 1ms to connect, 8ms for the TLS handshake, 873ms of server processing, and 1ms to transfer the response, 885ms total.

## Is It Reliable?

So far, yes, though the honest answer is we don’t have enough history yet to call this settled, and you shouldn’t take a clean early result as a long-term guarantee on any host.

Our UptimeRobot monitor showed the site up for a continuous 22 hours and 4 minutes at the time of testing, with 100% uptime and zero incidents across the 24-hour, 7-day, and 30-day windows it reported.

Average response time held at 624ms, ranging between 612ms and 635ms.

That 22-hour figure tells you this monitor is still young, the 30-day window is reporting clean because there’s been no downtime yet, not because it’s accumulated a genuine month of history.

If reliability is the deciding factor for you, check Kinsta’s public status page for their longer-term track record rather than relying on our early numbers alone; we’re continuing to watch this account and will update these figures as real history builds.

## Where This Stops Making Sense

- Skip Kinsta if you’re running a single low-traffic site where a $5-15/month shared or bandwidth-based plan already does the job, the price difference isn’t justified by resources you won’t use.
- Skip it if you need bundled email hosting, it isn’t included at any tier, and you’ll be paying for Google Workspace or Zoho Mail on top regardless of which plan you pick.
- Skip it if you need HIPAA-compliant hosting, because Kinsta does not offer HIPAA-compliant hosting or enter into Business Associate Agreements (BAAs).
- And skip it if you specifically want a traditional control panel, cPanel or otherwise, MyKinsta replaces that entirely, which is a feature for some buyers and a dealbreaker for others depending on what you’re used to.

## Who Should Choose This, and Who Shouldn’t

**Choose it if:**

- You’re running client sites and want the operational visibility MyKinsta’s analytics provide
- Downtime or slow load times carry a real cost for your business
- You specifically want managed infrastructure instead of a server you configure yourself
- You’re comfortable learning MyKinsta instead of cPanel

**Look elsewhere if:**

- You’re launching a first website on a tight budget
- You need bundled email hosting
- You need HIPAA-compliant hosting or a Business Associate Agreement (BAA)
- Most of your audience sits in North America or Europe and you were hoping for the same TTFB numbers Singapore got here

## Our Verdict

Kinsta earns its price at the operational layer more than at the raw speed layer.

The GTmetrix numbers were the weakest raw score we’ve measured on any host so far, while PageSpeed told a much better story on the same page, and we’re reporting both rather than picking the flattering one.

What’s genuinely differentiated is what happens around the page: bot traffic broken down by category, a WAF blocking malicious requests without configuration, SSL that worked without a support ticket, and a specific, countable error rate instead of a vague uptime promise.

That’s worth $70/month if you’re the kind of buyer this plan is built for, an agency or a business that needs to see what’s happening on the account, not just whether the page loads.

It’s not worth it for a first website or a low-traffic blog, where the price alone rules it out before any of these numbers matter.
