Several monitoring tools received 403 (Forbidden) responses during testing, not because the site was down, but because Vultr’s security stack actively blocks automated probes. The Ranking Factor: Interaction to Next Paint (INP)

Our Analysis: The INP of 188ms is the one clear pass. The page responds to user clicks and taps within Google’s 200ms threshold. This means interactive elements like buttons and menus feel responsive to real users.

The remaining metrics tell a harder story. The TTFB of 2.3s is marked with a red warning triangle in PageSpeed, placing it in the Poor category. This is the highest TTFB we have recorded across all our 2026 reviews. It means real users, particularly on mobile, are waiting over 2 seconds before the first byte of page content even begins to arrive.

The LCP of 3.8s and CLS of 0.16 both exceed Google’s thresholds. A CLS of 0.16 means content is visibly shifting as the page loads. This directly harms user experience and can lead to accidental clicks on moving elements.

These are field measurements from real Chrome users across all network types and global locations. The contrast with the DebugBear lab results below reveals an important gap between controlled test conditions and real-world mobile performance.

Global Latency: Time to First Byte (TTFB) Heatmap

A server is only fast if it is physically close to your user.

Using KeyCDN, we tested the Time to First Byte from eight international locations.

During this test, Vultr’s WAF returned 403 Forbidden responses for seven of the eight locations. Only Frankfurt received a standard 200 response. The TTFB figures for 403 responses still reflect real network latency since the connection was established and the server responded, even if content was blocked.

Our Analysis: The pattern here is unusual. Seven locations received 403 responses in under 85ms. This confirms that Vultr’s CDN layer (Cloudflare) reaches users globally with fast edge connections. The network itself is fast. The problem is that Vultr’s WAF is configured to block most automated probes before serving content.

The only location to receive a full 200 response was Frankfurt, with a TTFB of 1.28 seconds. That is a slow origin response. It suggests that when Cloudflare cannot serve a cached response and has to fall back to the origin server, the round trip adds significant latency. This is consistent with the poor TTFB figure seen in the PageSpeed field data (2.3s).

For Vultr customers, this does not reflect your own Droplet or application latency. Your own server’s TTFB is determined entirely by your infrastructure configuration, not by Vultr’s marketing website.

Stress Test: Load Handling & Stability

We didn’t just want to see how the site runs with one visitor; we wanted to see how it handles pressure.

We simulated a viral traffic event using K6 Load Cloud by sending 50 simultaneous virtual users to browse the site at the exact same time.

Our Analysis: The uptime reads 100% but reachability drops to 67.7%. This gap is directly explained by Vultr’s WAF behavior. The server is up and running at all times. However, 32.3% of monitoring probes across the 22 global locations receive 403 responses rather than valid content. K6 counts these as reachability failures even though the site is technically online.

The Reliability Test: Is 100% Uptime Real?

Every host claims 99.9% uptime, but we wanted to verify if they practice what they preach.

We verified their availability by monitoring the site 24/7 with Uptime Robot on a 5-minute check cycle.

Our Analysis: One confirmed downtime incident of 11 minutes and 38 seconds was recorded across all monitoring windows. This is the same incident appearing in the 24-hour, 7-day, and 30-day views, which means it was an isolated event within the most recent monitoring period.

The displayed uptime percentage in the Uptime Robot dashboard reflects the proportion of checks that returned successful responses. Given that Vultr’s WAF actively blocks many automated probes (as confirmed by the KeyCDN and K6 results), the percentage figure shown is influenced by blocked requests rather than true downtime.

The MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of 0.07 hours is a figure that reflects monitoring probe failures, not actual server failures. When the WAF rejects a monitoring check, Uptime Robot records it as a failure event. This creates an artificially compressed MTBF figure that does not represent the real reliability of Vultr’s infrastructure.

Our Take: Vultr’s real infrastructure reliability is likely much higher than the raw monitoring numbers suggest. The security layer is too aggressive for standard monitoring probes to pass through consistently. For a more accurate reliability picture, we cross-reference with the K6 uptime reading of 100%.

Security Hardening: SSL/TLS Configuration

We ran a deep scan with Qualys SSL Labs to verify that visitor data is properly encrypted across all servers.

Our Analysis: Vultr scores Grade A+ across all four servers, which is the highest possible SSL rating from Qualys Labs. This is a strong result shared only by Hetzner among the providers we have reviewed in 2026. The A+ requires HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security) to be fully active and enforced. HSTS forces all browsers to connect over HTTPS only, eliminating the possibility of protocol downgrade attacks.

TLS 1.3 is fully supported. The connection handshake completes in a single round trip, reducing the time before data transmission begins. For end users, this means a faster and more secure connection from the first visit.

Future-Proofing: HTTP/3 & QUIC Support

Our Analysis: Vultr fully supports HTTP/3, QUIC, and 0-RTT. This is a meaningful advantage over DigitalOcean, which does not advertise any alternative services on its own domain.

HTTP/3 uses UDP instead of TCP. When a mobile user loses a data packet (common on 4G networks in transit), HTTP/3 allows remaining streams to continue loading independently.

There is no queue blockage. 0-RTT extends this further by allowing returning visitors to begin receiving data before the security handshake is even complete. The result is noticeably faster repeat visits on mobile devices.

For this review, we used DebugBear instead of GTmetrix. DebugBear combines Chrome UX Report (real user field data) with a controlled lab test in one report, allowing a direct comparison between how the site performs in ideal conditions vs. how real users actually experience it.

Our Analysis: The most important finding in this test is the gap between lab and real-world performance. In the DebugBear lab test from US East, the LCP is an excellent 733ms. In Google’s PageSpeed field data collected from real Chrome users on mobile, the LCP is 3.8 seconds. That is a 5x difference between ideal and real-world conditions.

This gap exists because the lab test runs from a fast device on a strong network close to the server. Real users access the site on a wide range of mobile devices, network speeds, and geographic distances. Vultr’s website appears well-optimized for fast connections near US servers but degrades significantly under real-world mobile conditions.

The TTFB of 302ms in the lab is decent. It confirms the server can respond quickly under ideal conditions. The 2.3s TTFB in the PageSpeed field data reflects global users hitting slower paths to the origin.

The TBT of 2.44 seconds is the most actionable issue. Total Blocking Time measures how long JavaScript prevents the page from responding to user input during load. At 2.44s, this is the highest TBT we have recorded across our 2026 reviews. A large volume of tracking scripts, analytics, and interactive components are loading on the main thread without proper deferral.

The CLS of 0 in the lab is perfect, but the PageSpeed field CLS of 0.16 again shows the gap. Real users are experiencing layout shifts that do not appear in controlled tests.

The 590KB page weight is relatively lean. The performance issues are not caused by heavy assets but by unoptimized JavaScript execution.

Vultr provides 24/7 ticket-based support. There is no live chat or phone support on standard plans. The support team is technically strong and handles infrastructure-level issues accurately.

  • Community and Documentation: Vultr’s tutorial library covers a wide range of topics from basic Droplet setup to Kubernetes configuration. Articles are regularly maintained and written at a practical level.
  • Response Time: Typically a few hours for standard tickets. Priority support is available on higher account tiers.

3. The Vital Trade-off: Windows Support and Global Reach

Vultr stands out from Hetzner and DigitalOcean by offering native Windows Server support. You can deploy Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 directly from the portal. This makes Vultr one of the only developer-focused cloud providers that covers both Linux and Windows workloads without requiring a separate provider.

The 32-location global network is also a genuine differentiator. If your users are spread across Southeast Asia, South America, and Africa alongside Europe and the US, Vultr has data center options that Hetzner and some DigitalOcean regions cannot match.

The trade-offs are real. Vultr’s own website shows the weakest Core Web Vitals performance of any provider we have tested in 2026. The TBT of 2.44s and field TTFB of 2.3s indicate that the marketing site is carrying heavy JavaScript without proper optimization. The WAF configuration also creates confusion in monitoring results, making reliability harder to verify at a glance.
