## About WP Engine

WP Engine was founded in 2010 by Jason Cohen and Ben Metcalfe as a managed WordPress hosting company, headquartered in Austin, Texas.

Heather Brunner became CEO in 2013, with Cohen moving into a CIO role.

WordPress.org blocked WP Engine’s access to its servers and plugin/theme repositories later that month, and both parties exchanged cease-and-desist letters over trademark and other allegations.

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction in December 2024 requiring WordPress.org to restore WP Engine’s access, and a class action lawsuit from affected customers followed in February 2025.

Essential’s 75 GB bandwidth cap is also worth knowing, since it’s a stated limit rather than the unmetered bandwidth several competing hosts advertise on comparable-priced plans.
