Google has made it clear. If you do not pass Core Web Vitals, your rankings will suffer. We tested Hetzner against Google’s official field data, collected from real Chrome users over a 28-day period.

Our Analysis: The INP of 146ms is the most important number on this page. It measures how fast the server responds to a real user click or tap. Passing this metric with 146ms confirms that Hetzner’s AMD EPYC processors and NVMe SSD storage handle interactive requests without delay. Google considers anything under 200ms as good for INP.

The overall assessment shows Failed because LCP (2.7s) and CLS (0.12) sit just above Google’s thresholds on the corporate homepage. These results come from real Chrome user data across various mobile devices and network conditions globally. The Hetzner homepage serves a global audience from European data centers, which naturally adds latency for users in Asia, South America, and Africa. On a customer-built site hosted closer to its target audience with optimized images and proper layout stability, these numbers improve significantly.
The TTFB of 1.1s reflects real-world global field data, not a single lab test. For European users, TTFB from Hetzner’s servers is well under this average. The elevated figure is pulled upward by users in regions far from Hetzner’s data centers.

Global Latency: Time to First Byte (TTFB) Heatmap

A server is only fast if it is physically close to your user.

Using KeyCDN, we tested the Time to First Byte (TTFB) from various international locations to evaluate the network peering capabilities.

Our Analysis: The European results are outstanding. Frankfurt at 71ms and Amsterdam at 99ms confirm that Hetzner’s home network is world-class. These numbers are possible because Hetzner connects directly to DE-CIX, one of the world’s largest internet exchanges, with over 1,300 Gbit/s of capacity. Data packets reach European users through short, direct routes rather than congested public paths.

New York at 266ms is acceptable for a European-hosted server crossing the Atlantic. San Francisco at 461ms and Bangalore at 504ms show the natural distance penalty.

Singapore and Sydney both exceed 800ms TTFB. Hetzner does have a Singapore colocation point, but traffic routing from this test landed on European servers. If your audience is primarily in Asia or the Pacific, Hetzner should not be your first choice without a CDN in front of it.

Stress Test: Load Handling & Stability

We didn’t just want to see how the site runs with one visitor; we wanted to see how it handles pressure.

We simulated a viral traffic event using K6 Load Cloud by sending 50 simultaneous virtual users to browse the site at the exact same time.

Our Analysis: A 98.9% reachability score across 22 global locations is a strong result for a primarily European host. Hetzner’s cloud infrastructure uses KVM-based virtualization on its own hardware. There are no third-party cloud dependencies in the stack. Hetzner controls everything from the physical server to the hypervisor layer.

This architecture means maintenance windows and hardware replacements are handled internally. When demand rises, Hetzner does not rely on another vendor to respond. The result is consistent availability even when traffic spikes.

The Reliability Test: Is 100% Uptime Real?

Every host claims 99.9% uptime, but we wanted to verify if they practice what they preach.

We verified their availability by monitoring the site 24/7 with Uptime Robot on a 5-minute check cycle.

Our Analysis:Achieving 100% uptime across 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days is a strong result. Hetzner operates multi-redundant network connections to major internet exchanges including DE-CIX and AMS-IX.

Their European data centers in Nuremberg, Falkenstein, and Helsinki are all ISO 27001:2022 certified, which means their infrastructure, processes, and physical security meet internationally audited standards. The uptime numbers reflect this.

Security Hardening: SSL/TLS Configuration

We ran a deep scan with Qualys SSL Labs to ensure that visitor data is properly encrypted against modern threats.

Our Analysis: Hetzner scores Grade A+, which is the highest possible SSL rating from Qualys Labs. This is above the standard A grade that most hosts receive. The A+ is awarded specifically because HSTS (HTTP Strict Transport Security) is fully enabled. This forces all browsers to connect over HTTPS only. It eliminates the risk of protocol downgrade attacks entirely.

TLS 1.3 support reduces the handshake from two round trips to one. This means the secure connection is established faster, which lowers latency before any content even starts loading.

Future-Proofing: HTTP/3 & QUIC Support

We checked with the HTTP/3 Check tool to see if the server stack is optimized for modern mobile networks.

Our Analysis: Hetzner fully supports HTTP/3 with QUIC and 0-RTT. Traditional HTTP/2 uses TCP, which suffers from connection delays when a single data packet is lost. HTTP/3 runs on UDP, so each data stream is independent. If a mobile user loses one packet while commuting, the rest of the page keeps loading without interruption.

0-RTT takes this further. It allows returning visitors to reconnect to the server with zero round-trip delay. The first byte of data is sent before the handshake is even complete. This makes repeat visits feel noticeably faster on mobile devices.

Our Analysis: GTmetrix tests from a single lab location. The TTFB of 633ms is the most useful number here. That is the raw server response time from the test location. It confirms Hetzner’s servers respond quickly before any frontend rendering begins.

The TBT of 31ms is the standout result. Scripts almost never block the page from responding to user interaction. This is a direct product of fast NVMe storage and efficient server-side processing.
The Grade C is driven by LCP and fully loaded time on a very large marketing homepage. Hetzner’s corporate site is not a lightweight blog. It loads 3D visuals, large hero images, and multiple JavaScript frameworks. A customer-built site with clean code and optimized images will score significantly better.

The Sustainability Test: Green Web Verification

Speed is important, but so is sustainability. We ran www.hetzner.com through the Green Web Foundation’s database to verify if their infrastructure runs on renewable energy.

Our Analysis: Hetzner is confirmed as a verified green hosting provider by the Green Web Foundation. Hetzner uses hydropower in Germany and hydropower plus wind power in Finland for its own data center parks.

In March 2025, Hetzner and MHB Montage also launched HT Clean Energy, a solar initiative specifically designed to reduce the carbon footprint of its data center operations further. This makes Hetzner one of the few hosts that directly owns its green energy supply chain rather than purchasing carbon offsets.
