How We Tested
We ran direct technical audits against each provider’s official corporate domain: ovhcloud.com for OVHcloud and www.hetzner.com for Hetzner.
An important note on OVHcloud’s global test results: KeyCDN test nodes in New York, San Francisco, Amsterdam, and Bangalore all returned “Host Not Found” errors. The OVHcloud review attributes this to aggressive DDoS protection and geographic firewall rules blocking automated test traffic. This is the same firewall behaviour documented for Rocket.net (Cloudflare WAF). The OVHcloud nodes that did connect returned 301 redirect responses. The latency figures for Singapore (26ms) and Frankfurt (56ms) are from connections that succeeded.
Hetzner’s load test average (895ms) is taken from the review summary. The K6 test table records uptime and reachability but does not separately state an average latency figure.

OVHcloud passes both LCP and INP. LCP at 1.8s is well inside Google’s 2.5s threshold. INP at 122ms is an excellent interactive response time. The 1.1s TTFB is an advisory failure — it is not one of Google’s three Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS), so it does not change the overall CWV assessment.
Hetzner fails two of three CWV metrics. LCP of 2.7s misses by 200ms. CLS of 0.12 misses by 0.02. The Hetzner review explains both failures as products of the heavy marketing homepage serving global users from European servers. A 1.1s TTFB on a European server reaching global audiences is expected without a CDN — and both providers share this TTFB value.

For a developer building a global application, Hetzner’s geographic reach is more predictable. OVHcloud’s aggressive DDoS filtering is appropriate for protecting enterprise infrastructure but it means automated monitoring tools and global CDN checks may fail to connect from multiple regions. The underlying hardware is fast when it accepts connections.

OVHcloud delivers an elite FCP of 507ms — content appears on screen quickly. Then TBT of 318ms blocks the page before it becomes interactive. OVHcloud’s server delivers content fast. Its frontend scripts are heavy.
Hetzner delivers a TBT of 31ms — the lowest in this entire comparison series. Pages become interactive almost instantly after visual content loads. The LCP of 3.6s on Hetzner’s marketing homepage reflects heavy images and 3D visuals rather than server speed. The TTFB of 633ms from the GTmetrix test location confirms the server processes requests quickly.

Hetzner’s Grade A+ beats OVHcloud’s Grade A. HSTS enforcement is the difference. Hetzner enables HSTS by default, which forces browsers to use HTTPS even before a cached certificate is available. The practical difference between Grade A and A+ in SSL configuration comes down to whether browsers can be forced to connect insecurely under any condition. Grade A+ means they cannot.

The Hetzner review identifies one primary cause: aggressive account verification that results in unexpected account suspensions for new users connecting from VPN connections or with mismatched billing details. Established customers with completed ID verification rarely report suspensions. The verification process is strict because Hetzner’s clean network directly benefits all customers by preventing abuse.
