Thamara Cloud vs Rocket.net: Boutique Managed WordPress – Do the Smaller Hosts Compete

Both are smaller managed WordPress providers, away from the WP Engine and Kinsta tier. Thamara Cloud is a boutique EU-focused host built on Hetzner infrastructure in Germany. Rocket.net is a premium managed WordPress specialist built on Cloudflare Enterprise.

Thamara Cloud vs Rocket.net hosting comparison banner
A side-by-side comparison of Thamara Cloud and Rocket.net hosting platforms.

In direct testing, Thamara Cloud’s mobile INP of 87ms beats Rocket.net’s 126ms — one of the best interactive response times in this entire series. Then the comparison turns. Thamara Cloud’s load test drops 7.9% of concurrent requests at 1,277ms average. Rocket.net handles the same test at 46ms with zero dropped connections. Thamara Cloud’s TTFB of 3.3s on mobile fails Google’s threshold by more than four times.

Thamara Cloud also holds Grade A+ SSL where Rocket.net holds Grade A. Its green energy is self-owned Hetzner hydropower, not a CDN renewable offset. Its data stays in Germany with GDPR compliance by default and no US CLOUD Act exposure. For EU businesses with specific data sovereignty requirements, these are genuine differentiators.

The question is whether those specific advantages are enough to compete with Rocket.net’s infrastructure performance.

Thamara Cloud built its platform on Hetzner Online’s German data centres in Nuremberg and Falkenstein. It positions itself around EU data sovereignty, GDPR compliance, and renewable energy from Hetzner’s hydropower sources. It uses a customised Plesk control panel. It offers something no other provider in this series offers: a lifetime hosting option with a single one-time payment.

Rocket.net built every plan around Cloudflare Enterprise. No add-on. No configuration. Cloudflare’s WAF, HTTP/3, edge caching, and DDoS protection are native to every customer account from day one. The result is 46ms concurrent load handling and mobile Core Web Vitals that pass all three Google thresholds.

Quick Verdict

Rocket.net wins on mobile Core Web Vitals, global TTFB outside Europe, concurrent load handling, desktop GTmetrix grade, HTTP/3 support, and 24/7 support access.

Thamara Cloud wins on mobile INP, SSL grade (A+ vs Rocket.net’s A), EU data sovereignty, self-owned renewable energy quality, and the unique lifetime hosting tier.

Both hold 100% uptime. Both are verified green.

How We Tested

We ran direct technical audits against each provider’s official corporate domain: thamara.cloud for Thamara Cloud and rocket.net for Rocket.net.

The Rocket.net Singapore test node returned a blocked result due to Cloudflare Enterprise WAF filtering automated test traffic. This is the same WAF behaviour noted in the Rocket.net solo review and is not a server failure. The three confirmed Rocket.net locations (Frankfurt, San Francisco, Bangalore) all returned results.

Thamara Cloud’s rating source is listed as Tenere rather than Trustpilot. Rocket.net’s rating is from Trustpilot. These are different platforms and cannot be compared directly.

Tools: Google PageSpeed Insights for mobile Core Web Vitals, GTmetrix for desktop rendering, K6 Load Cloud for concurrent traffic simulation, KeyCDN for global TTFB, Uptime Robot for availability, Qualys SSL Labs for SSL grade, HTTP/3 Check for protocol support, The Green Web Foundation for sustainability.

For complete individual test data, see our Thamara Cloud review and Rocket.net review.

INP (Interaction)126msUnder 200msPass
Google PageSpeed Insights mobile results for Rocket.net
Google PageSpeed Insights mobile results for Rocket.net

The one result that stands out for Thamara Cloud: INP of 87ms is better than Rocket.net’s 126ms. Both pass. But 87ms means mobile users experience near-instant interaction response. It is the second best INP recorded in this comparison series, behind only WP Engine’s 67ms. Hetzner’s infrastructure handles JavaScript execution efficiently, which produces this result despite the slow origin TTFB.

Thamara Cloud’s 3.3s TTFB causes everything else to fail. The server takes over three seconds before sending a single byte to a mobile visitor. By the time the first byte arrives, the page is already failing Google’s LCP threshold. A 3.3s TTFB compounds into cascading mobile failures that no front-end optimisation can fully resolve without addressing the origin response time.

Rocket.net’s 0.6s TTFB passes Google’s 0.8s threshold. Cloudflare Enterprise delivers the first response from the edge node closest to the visitor. LCP at 1.4s is well inside the limit.

Winner: Rocket.net on overall CWV. Thamara Cloud on INP specifically.

Test 2: Global Server Latency (KeyCDN TTFB)

Thamara Cloud is a European host. The data confirms this clearly. Frankfurt 51ms and London 67ms are solid EU results. New York at 293ms and Sydney at 946ms are single-origin results from Germany — no CDN layer distributes content to non-EU visitors.

Rocket.net returns 37ms in Frankfurt — faster than Thamara’s 51ms even in Thamara Cloud’s home region. It then returns 57ms in San Francisco and 57ms in Bangalore. Cloudflare Enterprise serves from global edge nodes regardless of where the origin server sits.

For any WordPress site with visitors outside Europe, Thamara Cloud’s latency profile is a practical barrier. The Thamara Cloud review explicitly states: “Look elsewhere if you have a global audience.”

Winner: Rocket.net

Thamara Cloud’s desktop TTFB of 844ms confirms the origin server bottleneck observed on mobile. A desktop connection with faster, more reliable network conditions still waits 844ms for the server to respond. Rocket.net’s Grade A with a 382ms FCP and 185ms TBT reflects the Cloudflare edge delivering content quickly.

The 528ms TBT on Thamara Cloud means desktop visitors wait over half a second before they can interact with the page after it appears loaded. Rocket.net’s 185ms is significantly lower.

Winner: Rocket.net

Thamara Cloud drops 7.9% of concurrent requests. Under 50 simultaneous users, nearly 8 in every 100 visitors received a timeout or connection failure. The 1,277ms average for those that connected means surviving requests still take over a second to process.

Rocket.net serves every concurrent request at 46ms average with zero dropped connections. This is the best concurrent load result in the comparison series.

For a WooCommerce store, a campaign landing page, or any site that sends simultaneous visitors from a newsletter or social post, the difference between 0% and 7.9% dropped connections defines whether customers reach the site or see an error.

Winner: Rocket.net

Thamara Cloud holds Grade A+ where Rocket.net holds Grade A. Thamara Cloud enforces HSTS by default. The practical difference between Grade A and A+ at the security layer is HSTS enforcement — Grade A+ means browsers refuse HTTP connections, including on first visits.

Rocket.net reaches A+ by enabling HSTS in the Cloudflare Enterprise configuration. One step. But Thamara Cloud delivers it without any action required from the user or developer.

Winner: Thamara Cloud

Rocket.net’s Cloudflare Enterprise stack includes HTTP/3 natively. Thamara Cloud does not support it. HTTP/3’s independent stream handling on cellular connections means a dropped packet stalls only that stream rather than the entire page load. On Hetzner infrastructure without HTTP/3, a dropped packet during a mobile connection stalls everything.

The Thamara Cloud review explicitly links the lack of HTTP/3 to the platform’s poor mobile performance. Combined with the 3.3s TTFB, the absence of HTTP/3 removes a layer of mobile optimisation that would otherwise reduce visible loading lag.

Winner: Rocket.net

Both providers are verified green. The quality of the certification differs. Thamara Cloud’s green status comes through Hetzner’s own data centre energy supply — hydropower and renewables in their physical facilities in Germany. Rocket.net’s green status comes through Cloudflare’s CDN renewable energy matching, which attributes renewable energy credits to the delivery layer rather than origin data centre operations.

For European businesses that publish green credentials in annual reports or sustainability pages, Thamara Cloud’s Hetzner-backed certification is the more substantive basis.

Winner: Thamara Cloud on green energy quality.

The Specific Case for Thamara Cloud

Performance tests show Rocket.net ahead in almost every category. Thamara Cloud still has a defined use case. It is narrow, but it is real.

EU data sovereignty. Thamara Cloud runs on Hetzner servers in Nuremberg and Falkenstein, Germany. Data does not leave the EU. The US CLOUD Act — which allows US authorities to compel US companies to hand over data stored anywhere in the world — does not apply. Rocket.net is a US company routing traffic through a US CDN provider. For European businesses handling patient data, financial records, or personal data under strict regulatory requirements, this is not a performance question. It is a legal one.

GDPR compliance by architecture. Running on German Hetzner infrastructure means GDPR compliance is embedded in the data residency model, not added as a policy layer on top of a US infrastructure. For EU startups, healthcare providers, legal firms, or any business where a data processor agreement with a US company creates risk, Thamara Cloud’s architecture removes the question.

Self-owned renewable energy. Hetzner’s hydropower and renewable energy supply is documented and independently verified. For European businesses that need to show auditors or clients a verified renewable energy source for their digital infrastructure, Thamara Cloud’s Hetzner certification is more defensible than a CDN renewable offset.

Lifetime hosting. No other provider in this comparison series offers a lifetime hosting option. For a business with a fixed-term project, a portfolio site that will run for years, or a developer who wants to eliminate recurring hosting fees permanently, a one-time payment option is a category that Rocket.net simply does not offer.

Final Verdict

The title asks whether smaller hosts compete. The answer is provider-specific.

Rocket.net competes with WP Engine, Kinsta, and the largest managed WordPress platforms. Its 46ms concurrent load average, passing Core Web Vitals, GTmetrix Grade A, and global sub-60ms TTFB are among the best results in this series regardless of provider size.

Thamara Cloud competes in a specific, narrower category. It wins on EU data sovereignty, SSL grade, self-owned renewable energy quality, and mobile INP. It does not compete on global performance, concurrent load handling, or HTTP/3 support.

Thamara Cloud is best for: European businesses where data residency in Germany is a legal or contractual requirement, organisations that need self-owned renewable energy documentation, and anyone wanting a lifetime hosting option to eliminate recurring fees.

Rocket.net is best for: Any WordPress or WooCommerce deployment where performance is the requirement. Mobile SEO, WooCommerce conversions, global audiences, and concurrent traffic handling all go to Rocket.net.

Tactical Recommendations

For Thamara Cloud: add Cloudflare free plan to fix the global latency gap. Thamara Cloud’s 293ms New York and 946ms Sydney results confirm no CDN for dynamic content outside Europe. Adding Cloudflare’s free plan in front of a Thamara Cloud site routes static assets and cached responses through Cloudflare’s global edge. This brings non-EU visitor latency from the origin response time down to Cloudflare edge response times without moving any data outside the EU. Cloudflare edge delivery does not store data; it only caches content.

For Thamara Cloud: address the 3.3s mobile TTFB with aggressive server-side caching. The 3.3s TTFB is a server origin processing issue. Installing a full-page caching plugin that serves static HTML responses reduces the per-request origin processing time significantly. The 87ms INP proves the server handles JavaScript well once content is loaded. Getting the TTFB down from 3.3s to under 1s with caching turns the mobile performance profile from failing to competitive.

For Rocket.net: enable HSTS to reach SSL Grade A+. Thamara Cloud holds Grade A+ because HSTS is enabled by default. Rocket.net holds Grade A. In the Cloudflare Enterprise dashboard, enabling HSTS with a long max-age value closes this gap. For client proposals where SSL grade appears in security documentation, this one step matches Thamara Cloud’s strongest result.

For EU-based Rocket.net users: review data transfer implications. Rocket.net is a US company using Cloudflare, also a US company. Both are subject to the US CLOUD Act. For European businesses in regulated industries, this creates a data processor agreement requirement and potential jurisdiction risk that Thamara Cloud’s Hetzner-based architecture avoids by design. For non-regulated EU businesses, the practical risk is low. For healthcare, legal, and financial services, it is worth reviewing with a data protection officer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Thamara Cloud compete with Rocket.net on performance?

On specific metrics, yes. Thamara Cloud’s mobile INP of 87ms is better than Rocket.net’s 126ms, and its SSL Grade A+ beats Rocket.net’s Grade A. On most other performance metrics, Rocket.net leads significantly. Thamara Cloud’s 3.3s mobile TTFB, 1,277ms concurrent load average, 92.1% reachability, and Grade C desktop score are all below what Rocket.net delivers. Thamara Cloud competes on EU data sovereignty, green energy quality, SSL grade, and mobile interactivity. It does not compete on global speed or concurrent load handling.

Is Thamara Cloud good for GDPR compliance?

Yes. Thamara Cloud runs on Hetzner data centres in Germany. Data does not leave the EU. The platform is not subject to the US CLOUD Act because neither Thamara Cloud nor Hetzner are US companies. For European businesses that need to confirm EU data residency and avoid US jurisdiction data processor risk, this architecture provides the legal basis that US-hosted platforms cannot.

What is Thamara Cloud’s lifetime hosting option?

Thamara Cloud offers a one-time payment hosting tier that provides permanent access to hosting without recurring monthly or annual fees. This is not available from any other provider in this comparison series. For users with long-term projects, portfolio sites, or organisations that want to eliminate hosting as a recurring line item, this option has genuine financial value.

Does Rocket.net include Cloudflare Enterprise?

Yes. Every Rocket.net plan includes full Cloudflare Enterprise integration as the core delivery infrastructure. WAF, HTTP/3, edge caching, DDoS protection, and SSL are all provided through the Cloudflare Enterprise network. This is not an add-on or upgrade. It is the foundation of every Rocket.net plan from day one.

Why does Thamara Cloud have a better mobile INP than Rocket.net?

INP measures how quickly the page responds to user interactions like taps and clicks. It reflects JavaScript execution efficiency on the visitor’s device after content has loaded. Thamara Cloud’s Hetzner infrastructure produces well-structured JavaScript execution that achieves 87ms INP, even though the initial TTFB is slow. Rocket.net’s 126ms INP is also a strong result. The 39ms gap suggests Thamara Cloud’s server-side code execution is optimised efficiently despite the origin response time weakness.

Is Thamara Cloud’s renewable energy better than Rocket.net’s?

Different in type. Thamara Cloud’s green certification comes from Hetzner’s own data centre energy supply, which includes hydropower and renewables in physical German facilities. This is self-owned renewable energy. Rocket.net’s green certification comes via Cloudflare’s CDN renewable energy matching, which attributes renewable energy credits to the content delivery layer. Both are verified green. For organisations that need to show auditors a self-owned renewable source rather than a CDN energy offset, Thamara Cloud’s Hetzner certification provides the stronger evidentiary basis.
